Do you have spams?
The "All Tech Considered" segment on NPR this week was about spam. I've been finding lately that rather than doing research on my own on a particular topic, it helps to draw on some local expertise. In this case, I picked the brain of Joshua Baer of Otherinbox, a guy who has been dealing with the world of spam for years and gave me some great background info. Given that his company works in that area (and, even moreso, in the world of more tasty "Bacn") he seemed like a good source.
You can find the segment here. I think it went well and was more relaxed than some of the other ones have been.
I was also quoted in two different articles. One was a story about e-résumés, and the other was a piece about how newspapers can use tech to avoid total meltdown (at least my part of the article was about that). Man, I sure do talk a lot.
The other major thing that's been happening lately is that Time Warner Cable announced it's rolling out tiered pricing in Austin, San Antonio and a few other cities this summer. That means if you go over a certain amount of downloading, they start charging you $1 per gigabyte.
Obviously, this hasn't gone over well in Austin and a blog post I wrote about it last week had nearly 200 comments from (mostly irate) people. You can follow the whole saga on Digital Savant. It's not over yet.

Oozy
New Smallville recap is up at Television Without Pity. Honestly, this is the first one I've written in a few episodes where I didn't feel overly rushed and was able to have fun with it and do better work. It might have had something to do with the fact that the episode itself was quite good and didn't traumatize me on first viewing. Here's the info:
Eggcelsior! -- In flashbacks and Papa Luthor's ridiculous old art journal, we learn the true origins of Davis Bloome/Doomsday. They involve an oozing space egg, a traumatic childhood and lots of murder. But can he be killed? Not so much.
