"Smallville" as a bad cop drama
A new recap is up for Smallville on Television Without Pity, this one about the craptastic (and largely boring) episode "Bulletproof." Deets below. At this point, I have no ideas if the show is returning for a ninth (NINTH!?) season, so I'm just plugging along. I remember around Season Four or Five thinking I'd run out of things to say about it. How young and naive I was back then. As much as I still enjoy doing the recaps, and as much of a completist I am for wanting to be the recapper from start to finish of the show's run, I gotta admit I hope it ends this year. Enough is enough, you know?
Cops + Capes = Crap -- How do you slow down a series about superheroes? Turn it into a clichéd cop drama. Clark goes undercover to find out who shot Martian Manhunter and tries to get a Good Cop from crossing over into Bad Cop territory.

Washi art and the 411 on GPS
This week's NPR segment was about GPS devices -- how they're becoming more common in cell phones and what that might mean. Judging from some of the comments on the story page and on the All Tech Considered blog page, people are definitely a little freaked out by the privacy issues. They're also concerned about how pimps might use it to trick johns. Go figure.
The other cool thing this week that I wanted to share was a story I wrote for the Masters of Their Domains series about Pun Hui Falkenhainer, a really talented artist who was kind enough to let me visit her home. She specializes in Washi (rice paper) art and her Web site, falkenart.net, features tutorials on how to do the kinds of pieces she does.
Sometimes you meet people whose talent just blows you away and she's definitely one of them. I shot a video of her work, too, which I hope you'll check out. It always amazes me that there are people with such great skills among us, waiting to share what they can do if you just ask.
