Rare Friday night activity
I could be kicking back some margaspritzers right now or, let's face it, smoking crack to relieve the birth anticipation, but instead I work. For you. Because I love you. YOU. All for you, my babies.
It's been surprisingly peaceful in the Terribly Happy compound considering how much there is to do and the lack of plural marriage around here. How is all the cooking supposed to get done with fewer than three wives? Somehow, we manage.
Today marks the first time I can remember that we posted a Space Monkeys! comic on a Friday night. This seems like an invitation to obscurity. Everyone is out doing vital things with their bodies, rhythmically. Those who are left, sedentary, at their desk, skimming the top of the Internet for surface chum... ah yes, these are our readers. Follow the boat! FOLLOW! The comic itself is about that Silver Surfer movie that I suspect I will never ever see while I'm alive. Maybe I'll catch it in death, depending on how long that lasts.
The other thing I am about to tell you may blow your mind: my second video ever for work has been posted, along with an entire story that goes around it like a hard, colorful candy shell, emblazoned not with an "M" but with "O." For "Oscar-worthy." Or "Omar." I guess that might be more accurate.
They are both about Girlstart's IT Girl program. My editor likes to say it took me six months to write this story, which is very true, but that only sounds impressive until people begin to believe that it was all I did for the last six months. Then it begins to just sound pathetic, and lazy, and fireable. Hey, I managed to work some other stories in there, too! I reviewed that Hobbit game! And I... uh... Twitter'd a lot. Debts were paid!
Still, it taught me that unless there's death or explosions involved, I'm not sure I ever want to work for six months on a newspaper article again. The pressure, man!
Hope you enjoy.

Linkystyle
Happy Thursday! I story of mine that ran in today's Life & Style section is up on Statesman.com. It's about retro gadgets (the iPhones of their day). You can find the story here as well as a photo gallery and a video I produced, my first for work.
So far I love working with video and hope I can do more stuff like this (and better, quality-wise). It was shot with a very tiny point-and-click camera that I'm still learning how to use.
My weecap of this week's Last Comic Standing is up at Television Without Pity, too. It was a busy week!

Injured bird's front Click here for the Flickr.com version.
This bird hit our living room window. I went outside to see what was up and the little guy was on the back porch, like, "Naw, it's cool, man, just let me chill a while. Just don't take any pictures of my embarrassed -- DAMMIT, I told you not to take a picture. Ass."
There's a really big bird with bright red plumage and a bright red mohawk who was hanging in the backyard, making sure that this guy was all right, making lots of noise and keeping cats away. That bird didn't sit still for any good pictures.
On a totally unrelated note, a new Space Monkeys! comic is up today and it's one I really like. It may not be safe for work, so beware.
